An AI content brief should make a piece more original and verifiable, not merely easier to generate. It defines the reader's problem, the publication's contribution, the evidence standard, and the editorial controls that separate a useful article from a generic summary.

Define one primary reader and one outcome. “People interested in AI” is not a workable audience. “Operations managers selecting a first document-analysis pilot” establishes knowledge level, risk tolerance, and likely questions.
2. Search and Reader Intent
Record the main query or discovery context, but describe the underlying need in plain language. Is the reader learning a concept, comparing options, solving a failure, or implementing a workflow? List the questions that must be answered for the article to satisfy that intent.
Do not build the article by copying headings from ranking pages. Review competing coverage to identify omissions, stale advice, weak evidence, and opportunities for a clearer tested workflow.
3. Original Contribution
State what this article adds:
- original testing or a reproducible experiment;
- practitioner experience;
- a decision framework;
- a current synthesis of primary sources;
- a template, checklist, or worked example;
- a clearer explanation of limitations and trade-offs.
If the brief cannot identify a contribution, generating more words will not create one.
4. Evidence Plan
Create a source register with title, publisher, URL, date, relevant section, and intended claim. Use primary sources for current product features, specifications, standards, laws, prices, and official policies. Use independent sources for evaluation, criticism, and context.
Label claims that require special review: quantitative, comparative, current, surprising, medical, legal, financial, security-related, or potentially harmful. Never instruct an AI system to invent citations or fill missing evidence with a plausible statement.

6. Article Architecture
For each section, define reader question, key answer, evidence, example, and transition. A practical structure is:
- reader problem and promised outcome;
- essential context and definitions;
- step-by-step method;
- worked example;
- failure modes and limitations;
- verification checklist;
- next action.
Set an approximate length based on the subject, not an arbitrary SEO target. Complex topics need enough space for mechanism and evidence; simple answers should remain short.
7. Voice and Presentation
Define observable style: sentence density, terminology, spelling standard, use of first person, heading approach, and prohibited promotional language. Provide an approved in-house example where possible. Require accessible link text, descriptive headings, meaningful alt text, and tables that remain understandable on small screens.
8. AI Assistance Rules
Specify what AI may do: outline alternatives, summarize supplied sources, draft sections, identify gaps, perform consistency checks, or suggest examples. Specify what requires human ownership: source selection, original experience, fact verification, sensitive judgment, legal review, and publication approval.
Protect confidential data and intellectual property. Use only authorized material and follow the organization's disclosure policy.

The brief is successful when another writer or editor can understand why the article exists, which evidence supports it, and how to decide whether it is ready. AI can accelerate execution, but the content's authority must come from genuine expertise, traceable sources, and accountable editing.
